La Destileria
|1 tequila, 2 tequila, 3 tequila, floor….

We took a tour of La Destileria in the hotel zone and learned a lot about the potent alcohol. The tour was $6.50 and included lots of information, a welcome cocktail, 3 tequila shots and a small plate of appetizers.

We started by learning about the agave plant, which is what tequila is made from. We learned about how the plant is harvested and how it becomes the drink we all love. We also learned the difference between white, gold and aged tequila.

We got to try a shot of each and learned the proper tasting technique. Surprisingly, the official way for tasting tequila involves sipping it slowly followed by lime, sangrita, or nothing depending on the type. By the time we were done our samples Jay (an official lightweight) was feeling the effects. Luckily we didn’t have to bike that far to our next destination where he had a chance to sober up!

Jennifer. we recently returned from Cancun and also had a great tour (and dinner later) at La Disteleria. Do you remember what was in the house drink? We think it may have been orange (fanta?), grapefruit juice, pineapple chunks and tequila, but not sure. And what was in the tomato juice that you sip after drinking tequila? Great pics by the way.
I don’t remember what was in the welcome drinks and I’m also not sure about the tomato juice. I’m Sorry I can’t be of more help! If I do find out in the future I will let you know! Thank you 🙂
