An Afternoon in Chetumal

On our way home from Belize we spent the afternoon in Chetumal. While there are many similarities to Cancun, this southern city is a bit more rustic, speaks a bit more English (due to its proximity to Belize), but also has a bit more culture.

We took a walk through the market, got some EXCELLENT watermelon agua, and picked up some cheap fruit. While on our walk we came across these trees. I felt like I had landed in Alice in Wonderland!

We tried to go to the Mayan Museum but, unfortunately, it was closed for renovations.

It was hot so we decided to go to OXO for one of our favourite treats: a vanilla latte slushie! Just our luck- the machine was broken! We asked where the closest alternative OXO was and we headed out on our mission. We walked for 20 min in the intense heat, but finally saw the OXO sign! Our excitement was short lived however as the second machine was ALSO broken! Luckily, just as we were about to strangle each other from heat induced anger we found an OXO with a working machine! Slushy success!

As we were walking around town we saw this intersection- pretty great!
But across the street…

On our 6 hour bus ride home I suffered through Twilight in Spanish. I learned that teenage angst sounds the same in all languages.
